Advising in Afghanistan has evolved, creating capable partners is different than creating dependent partners — are we finally learning how to move forward in Afghanistan in a manner that will (1) enable Afghan Security Forces, (2) strip the “Little Taliban” (Taliban living in Afghanistan) from “Big Taliban” (Taliban external to Afghanistan – primarily in Pakistan) and (3) enable peace negotiations?  We talk about it.

Fifty-one years ago yesterday 1stLt Phillip Sauer was killed in action in Vietnam as he covered the movement of his four Marines during an ambush northeast of the Khe Sanh combat base with his .45 caliber pistol. Yesterday, his siblings accepted his posthumous Silver Star at a ceremony presided over by MajGen Eric Smith, the CG of the 1st Marine Division, we’ll talk about it.
