Grant Newsham is a senior research fellow at the Japan Forum for Strategic Studies and a retired United States Marine Officer. He was the the first US Marine liaison officer to the Japan Ground Self Defense force and was instrumental in promoting the JSDF’s initial moves towards an amphibious capability. We spoke with Grant today about SECDEF Mattis’s recent trip to China and the lack of any major news story coming from the trip which didn’t make sense. We’ll also engage Grant of Secretary Pompeo’s recent trip to North Korea which has the North Koreans calling the Trump Administration “gangsters,” what is going on there and how long should the Trump Administration dance with North Korea before we begin to head back down the road of sanctions and further enforcement actions?
