Curt “Rudy” Knowles, LtCol USMC (ret) and former F18 pilot, joins the program as our official “F18 Explainer in Residence” and walks us through an investigation into a fatal crash last summer at MCAGCC in Twentynine Palms that occurred during a night strafing run done by a single seat F18.
Rudy will explain the term “Controlled Flight into Terrain” and what that means to the rest of us and most importantly, how that happens. We’ll also the discuss the lack of flight hours that leave all pilots short of “proficiency” but “current” and the dangerous place that is for today’s Marine Aviators.
