Outgoing Veterans Administration Secretary David Shulkin penned an Op-Ed for the New York Times in which he warned that nation about the forces that seek to “privatize” the VA. But why do we Veterans need our own health system for “general practitioner” medical business? Why doesn’t the VA concentrate on “combat related” medicine — TBI, mental health, burns and prosthetics (to name a few) and let a program like Medicare handle the rest? I don’t understand because it’s not like the care we receive at the VA is world class.
