Of all the things that the 41st President of the United States did in his long distinguished life, none impresses me more than his decision to fight for his country in World War II — NOT in a supporting role, which certainly was available to him as the son of a wealthy Connecticut business magnate – but as a Naval Aviator flying his dive bomber from the deck of an aircraft carrier in the Pacific Ocean.
I often tell my two sons and two daughters that our Country didn’t get to be the way it is because nobody gave a shit about it. At times in our Nation’s history, Americans have put our Nation before their own personal interest and served. George Herbert Walker Bush’s decision to serve his Nation as a warrior was the first step in a life of service. God Bless Him.
