James Mattis resigned his position as Secretary of Defense yesterday over policy & professional differences with President Trump. His resignation, while not a surprise after President Trump’s sudden decision to abandon Syria, is a blow to conservatives who depended on Secretary Mattis to provide a counter-balance to the President’s reckless instincts.
As concerning as Secretary Mattis’s resignation is, of greater concern is a President who ignores his National Security Advisor (John Bolton), his Secretary of Defense and his Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (General Joe Dunford) and who makes decisions without consulting or advising our allies. President Trump’s actions were stunning.
We’ll talk about it.
