Corporate and social media giants in the United States have an embarrassing record relative to hiring black leaders in their management teams, why? The final piece to Dr. King’s dream is for the American Dream to be accessible to all Americans regardless of race — that final frontier is employment. Why, given their public stances, do these companies not come close to racial numbers that they could easily hit if they chose to? AND, if demographics (including race) aren’t important to them — then why are they lecturing anybody else on the subject? These are numbers relative to black employees of each firm that occupy “executive” jobs:
- Apple: 2.9% (2018)
- Facebook: 3.8% (2019)
- Google: 3.7% (2020)
- Amazon: 0.0% (2020)
